Do I need a professional?
Yes. Well-written user manuals can increase customer satisfaction and reduce support costs. Your company's internal documentation has a direct impact on employee efficiency.
Can you help with my software strings?
I can write the strings for your software or online help; or proofread, edit, and rewrite your current strings. Because of my experience with localization, these strings will be ready for translation.
Do you work remotely?
Yes. Travel is not required—I can handle the work by phone and e-mail.
How does payment work?
I will charge by the hour or by the project. Project costs are often based on price per page. You may be billed every two weeks or at specific project stages, depending on the project.
What if I have changes?
If you are paying by the project, it includes one free rewrite when I receive change requests within 30 days. Otherwise, hourly rates apply.
An engineer who can write
I co-authored an article published in a technical magazine with a circulation of 90,000.
As a technical writer, my user's manual was mentioned in a PC Magazine product review:
The documentation offers an unusually good explanation of the various types of memory used
in . . . computer systems.
Education
I have an engineering degree from Harvey Mudd College, a small technical school in southern California. U.S. News & World Report always gives HMC's engineering program a high rank among undergraduate engineering schools without Ph.D. programs.
When can you start?
This depends on my current projects. If I'm working on a long-term contract, I may only be available for small jobs. The sooner you let me know, the more likely I can start when you need me.
